The “Oratorio of a Forgotten Youth: Musical Reflections on the Youth of ‘76” is a reflection of the era of South Africa in 1976 which will mark the 40th anniversary of the historic June 16 uprisings that set to change the course South African history.
Mandla Mbothwe directs the star-studded cast of the production which will also reflect the domestic current affairs through juxtaposition of monologues by our own legendary women performers (Thembi Mtshali-Jones, Bo Petersen, Celeste Matthews-Wannenburgh) and the post 1994 young blood poets (Koleka Putuma, Siphokazi Jonas, Janine Van Rooy-Overmeyer) to give a poetical reflection of now and then.
The production will also feature the well-known Mandla Mlangeni who will be providing a musical narrative journey of the piece. His band includes the legendary Dizo Plaatjies, Lesego Rampolokeng, Brydon Bolton, Mark Fransman and many more. There will also be a multimedia component under the skilful eye of Sanjin Muftic.
