The Advisory Committee would provide strategic advice and informed feedback about developing and promoting the Windybrow Arts Centre as a vibrant community arts centre for Pan-African arts & cultural expression and engagement.
Located in Doornfontein, on the border of Hillbrow, the Windybrow Arts Centre is the newest addition to the 42-year Market Theatre Foundation family. The Centre holds the potential of being positioned alongside the Market Theatre, Market Theatre Laboratory and Market Photo Workshop as a leader in the arts and cultural field. With more than 300 awards for artistic excellence and human rights the Market Theatre Foundation’s three business units have an excellent artistic reputation and a sound track record for social relevance and engagement.
The 7-member Advisory Committee will comprise of a range of experts, reflecting the diversity of Johannesburg’s population, who have an interest in the ongoing development of arts and culture within the city; and whose insights into how the Windybrow Arts Centre can become a vibrant hub for research, performances and exchanges with artists from across the continent.
Meetings of the Advisory Committee will be held on a monthly basis and will also include the CEO of the Market Theatre Foundation, the Head of the Windybrow Arts Centre and the Head of the Market Theatre Foundation’s Brand & Communications Manager. Other relevant staff members of the Market Theatre Foundation will attend the meeting depending on the agenda for the meeting. The Advisory Committee will be a sub-committee of the Market Theatre Foundation’s Artistic Committee.
