After no less than three rounds of auditions, the cast of Blast from the Past has been selected.
This is the next concert-style programme to be mounted by the PE Gilbert & Sullivan Society in Port Elizabeth in its present sequence.
The concert, which will run in the Savoy Theatre from Thursday to Saturday, October 27 to 29, will feature some of the “greatest hits” from the 1950s to the 1980s and is the society’s third concert programme this year.
This items will include something for everyone from Frank Sinatra chart-toppers via Michael Jackson, CCR, the super-group Queen and many other singing stars.
The cast of 20 includes past regular concert regulars in Khuselo Gqiba, Anke Staphorst, Phillip Cowie, Emma van der Westhuizen, Charl Vollgraaff, Sean Cady and Rose Cowpar, with a couple of favourites from the previous concert, Draadloos, Darné Claassen and Roelof Erasmus, also on hand again.
Others in the line-up include Derryn Fuller, Yvonne Parker, G&S signing sponsor Doron Blackman, who will make his G&S debut alongside Ken Collier, plus fellow newcomers in 72-year-old Cathy Scheun and her singing partner Hugh Ashworth, Chanté Meiring, Brad Chamberlain, Cailan van Heerden, Natalie Ferrant, Carmen Alldred and Litha Hewitt-Coleman.
Performances will be at 7.30 nightly plus a matinee on Saturday, October 29, at 2pm.
Tickets will be priced are R80 each or R75 for a group of 8 or more and patrons will again be able to choose from either row or table seating.
