New subscriptions and single seats go on sale on July 18 for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s Spring Symphony season.
With four concerts, two conducted by principal guest conductor Bernhard Gueller and two by guest conductor, the South African-born Conrad van Alphen, the season runs from August 24 to September 14 at the Cape Town City Hall.
Soloists are all award-winning young instrumentalists in competitions such as the Tchaikovsky and Tonali — the brilliant young teenage trumpeter Lucienne Renaudin-Vary (Hummel Trumpet Concerto), sensational pianist Daniel Kharitonov in Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto no 1, outstanding violinist Marina Grauman (Sibelius Violin Concerto) and show-stopping cellist Alexey Stadler who will play Schumann. A bonus will be the world premiere of Hendrik Hofmeyr’s Symphony, “The Elements”, supported by SAMRO and Concerts SA.
Main works on the programmes are the Eroica Symphony by Beethoven, Dvorak’s Symphony no 8, Borodin Symphony no 2 and Strauss Also Sprach Zarathustra.
Tickets from Artscape Dial-A-Seat 021 421 7695 and Computicket 0861 915 8000 or online http://online.computicket.com. Subscriptions attract discounts – 20 percent for all four concerts, an additional 10 per cent for Friends of Orchestral Music.
