Robin has served as the Company’s Artistic Director for twelve years and prior to that worked with Cape Town City Ballet as a dancer and teacher of note. He is moving on to new adventures and opportunities within the industry and his work with Cape Town City Ballet will be celebrated at their Awards event in December.
“Robin’s exceptional knowledge, upbeat personality and immense commitment to dance will be sorely missed,” says Debbie Turner, CEO of Cape Town City Ballet. “In the past 14 months, I have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to work alongside him and I have witnessed what an incredible mentor he is to the dancers. He is a team player as well as an extraordinary member of the management team and we wish him great success in this new chapter of his life.”
“After 22 years with Cape Town City Ballet including 12 years as the Artistic Director, it is time for a new adventure and a new journey,” says Robin van Wyk. “The time spent with the ballet company under Veronica Paeper, Elizabeth
Triegaardt , Tracy Li and now Debbie Turner has been rewarding beyond my expectations. There have been highs and lows, but the highs certainly outweigh the lows. This position has been all consuming twenty four seven and it is time to allow myself to breath and look ahead. This forthcoming time will still allow me to teach and choreograph with more time to reflect, but most importantly, acknowledge Robin van Wyk and my contribution to the world of dance!
“The dancers that I have met have become friends. I salute the choreographers I have worked with and the artists that have challenged me to go beyond what I thought was possible choreographically. They will be forever appreciated.
I wish Cape Town City Ballet the very best for the future – it will be wonderful to watch them from the auditorium.”
