The concert showcases the heartfelt stories of specific eras which shape our musical culture and storytelling. These echoes will be rendered through music and poetry narrated to capture the essence of the time with selected music from the celebrated classics of Shake KaSenzangakhona.
An epic in music and poetry on Shaka, son of Senzangakhona, and Princess Magogo kaDinuzulu a work about the Zulu princess, musician and poet Princess Constance Magogo kaDinuzulu by Prof Mzilikazi Khumalo which have been donated by SAMRO & Opera Africa for this day and added to this beautiful celebration is new compositions by musical alchemists – Linda Sikhakhane and Ndabo Zulu with Standard Bank Young Artist Recipient for Music Nduduzo Makhathini in collaboration with scholar and singer Mbuso Khoza and Zawadi Ya Mungu with words by Thuto Gaasenwe.
Echoes of time concert is presented by Anchored Sound, Theatreduo and supported by Pacinamix in association with Roodepoort Theatre. A one-night-only performance at the Roodepoort Main Theatre on 16 February at 20:00, the concert features a 32-piece symphony orchestra and a team of awarding and celebrated creatives who use various forms of art as a response to certain themes around culture, spirituality, politics and history.
The show is directed and curated by award-winning theatre makers Billy Langa and Mahlatsi Mokgonyana, affectionally known as Theatreduo, in collaboration with Ofentse Pitse who is also the conductor and founder of Anchored Sound, making her one of the handful of young female music conductors.
