The Joburg City Theatres (JCT) is an entity of the City of Johannesburg that stimulates and operates Joburg Theatre, Roodepoort Theatre and Soweto Theatre in order to provide the integrated management of theatre venues.
An Executive Producer position is available for a goal-orientated individual with a commitment to realizing the JCT vision.
Purpose of the position: The Executive Producer takes overall responsibility for the planning and production of a dynamic and imaginative programme of work for all 3 theatres. The Executive Producer leads in the delivery of the organisation’s long-term, strategic programming vision.
Key responsibilities: Strategic Planning and Leadership: Develop and deliver a high quality, diverse and sustainable artistic programme for JCT, within agreed budgets. Lead long-term planning of the organisation to achieve the theatres’ artistic objectives. Promotes JCT work locally, nationally and internationally to enhance the organisation’s reputation. Secure invitations for JCT’s own productions to travel beyond Joburg/South Africa, developing touring opportunities for the theatre’s work at local, national and international level.
Financial Management: Take financial responsibility for the organisation’s activities through setting, monitoring and managing annual budgets with the CEO and CFO/COO. Demonstrate on-going awareness of the theatres’ financial performance in setting individual production budgets with the CFO and visiting creative personnel. Take overall responsibility for the timely and accurate reporting to key funding partners as required.
Personnel Management: Undertake the day-to-day management of the employees and operations of the Client Services and Stage Departments of Joburg Theatre. Marketing and Communications: Convene and chair regular senior management meetings to ensure the component parts of JCT work well together in developing a marketing policy and strategy for the organisation. Youth & Community Development Unit: Produce a Community/ Youth Development strategy for all 3 theatres.
Education and experience required:
– A degree/arts qualification. 15 to 20 years’ experience as a producer/arts management environment of which at least 10 years must have been at a Senior Management/Strategic level
– Proven track record *Qualification in Municipal Financial Management Act (MFMA), candidates who do not possess this qualification will be required to acquire it within 18 months from the date of appointment.
