Contract positions available with the visionary Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative for Professional Dancers, Interns and Trainees.

The Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative (FATC), funded by the National Lotteries Commission of South Africa (NLCSA), announces the availability of 12 month-contract opportunities for professional dancers, dance interns and trainees.
FATC, one of South Africa’s leading dance companies and a recognized champion of art for social transformation, is now based at the Ebhudlweni Art Centre in Emakhazeni, Mpumalanga. Qualified candidates who would like to be part of the visionary work carried out by The Forgotten Angle Theatre Collaborative from its pioneering rural Arts Centre are invited to apply for these positions, available for the 2016 – 2017 period.

FATC has a vibrant and internationally acclaimed artistic programme, which sees the company regularly performing on significant national and international platforms. It is also very active in pursuing its commitment to training and development programmes. From its base at the Ebhudlweni Art Centre in rural Mpumalanga, FATC offers an array of programmes that include: an extensive Rural Outreach programme, that teaches dance to children and youth in Mpumalanga and further afield in other provinces; a Youth Artists Leadership Programme; and an Artists-In-Residence programme for young professional dance artists. FATC also curates the My Body My Space Public Art Festival in Mpumalanga and runs annual Summer and Winter School programmes for young people and young professionals at the Ebhudlweni Art Centre. Successful candidates will play a vital role in implementing FATC’s extensive artistic and outreach programmes.

Available positions and requirements:

• Professional Dance Artists:
FATC is looking to fill two positions for exceptional professional dance artists. Dancers should have a minimum of three years professional experience in the fields of contemporary dance and/or dance theatre. Suitable candidates should also have extensive dance teaching experience across all age groups and skill levels. FATC is looking for highly skilled creators, performers and educators with an impeccable professional work ethic who are:
o Self-motivated
o Hard working
o Disciplined
o Creatively and personally resourceful
o Open to new processes
o Skilled in improvisational processes
o Committed to the values of rural outreach work
o Available and able to work and live in a remote rural setting for a 12 month period
o Committed to social transformation through the arts
o Committed to sustainable living practices.

The work duties of successful candidates will include:
o Participation in FATC’s national and international artistic programme as performers and/or choreographers
o Teaching on FATC’s Outreach and development programmes
o Providing mentorship to Interns and Trainees
o Project management and administration

• Company Interns:
FATC is looking to fill several Intern positions for young and emerging dance professionals. The company is seeking three candidates with a tertiary qualification in dance and/or choreography from a recognised national or international institution, or who are able to demonstrate proof of prior learning. These candidates should also have some experience in teaching, creating and performing contemporary dance. In addition, FATC is looking for two junior interns from the Emakhazeni municipality, who demonstrate ability in the fields of dance, leadership and administration. FATC is looking for candidates with an impeccable professional work ethic who are:

o Creatively and personally resourceful

o Skilled in improvisational processes
o Committed to the values of rural outreach work
o Available and able to work and live in a remote rural setting
o Committed to social transformation through the arts

The primary work duties of successful candidates will include:
o Teaching on FATC’s Outreach programmes
o Leading projects within FATC’s outreach programmes
o Being involved across all FATC projects which includes creating their own work and participating in the My Body My Space Festival
o Being immersed in all FATC activities and programs
o Providing Admin support across all projects

Through this internship candidates will develop their performance and choreographic skills, dance education skills and administrative skills while accruing work experience in a rural context.

• Trainees:
FATC is looking to fill Trainee positions which will be awarded to four women. Only female candidates can apply for these positions. Female candidates should have an interest in dance and/or performance as a career. They should be able to demonstrate that they have some experience in dance through regular attendance of dance classes and/or workshops. Through participation in this traineeship candidates will: receive on-the-job professional dance training; be fully immersed in all company activities; and offer support as assistants in FATC’s Outreach project.
