- G&S to audition two concert-style shows - 08/06/2018
Auditions will be held for the Port Elizabeth Gilbert & Sullivan Society’s Blast from the Past programme on Saturday, June 9, at the Savoy Theatre.
The next concert-style presentation by the PE Gilbert & Sullivan Society will be the third annual edition of the popular Blast from the Past programme, which is set to run from Thursday to Saturday, July 25 to 28, at 7.30pm, plus a matinee on the Saturday at 2.30pm, in the Savoy Theatre.
These shows have gained a strong following with their mix of theatre seating and cabaret tables.
The society will audition singers and dancers for Blast From the Past 3 at the theatre on Saturday, June 9, from 10am, with a special dance audition, for experienced dancers only, in the afternoon.
Blast from the Past 3 will feature popular songs from the 1950s to the 1980s. It will be followed in September by “a themed song and dance show”.
This presentation, to be directed by Bennie Gerber, will be auditioned at the same time. G&S is seeking fresh talent to add to the bank of performers discovered at past try-outs.
These concert programmes allow for seasons of four to five performances (including a matinee) at the Savoy Theatre and thus involve minimal rehearsal time, ideal for many performers unable to manage the demands of a full-scale musical.
G&S is looking for experienced, confident singers and dancers for both programmes which will feature solos, duets and some small group work, ideally using songs already included in the repertoire of the auditionees.
Singers who can play an instrument or instrumentalists working with singers are especially welcome, as are singers with strong dancing skills. A group of dedicated dancers is also needed.
There will be no ensemble for Blast from the Past 3 as the society is seeking strong performers able to work independently and come together in a short space of time.
All auditionees should prepare a classic song from the 1950s – 1980s that suits their voice and vocal range. They may audition with a back-track or provide their own live accompaniment.
