A Short Learning Programme (SLP) on the Fundamentals of Choir Management empowers and develops the management skills of the choral community. It is offered at the Tshwane University of Technology’s Centre for Creative Industries at its Faculty of the Arts
So, if you are a choir administrator, part of a community or institutional choir, a conductor, part of a choral music association, or a teacher (with or without a music background), then, this SLP is for you.
The SLP is tailor-made for the needs of the choirs. The programme equips participants with the management skills necessary for sustaining choirs at various levels in the South African society. Some of the skills developed are: financial management, brand management, operations management, and understanding choral music as heritage.
The aim of the SLP is also to develop knowledge of the ecology of choral music and its larger socio-economic and cultural environment, thereby empowering participants to make informed, practical decisions about their choirs.
The SLP will be offered in lecture mode and includes active participation. It will take place once a week, over 8 weeks. The daily sessions will be 6 hours long.
The cost is R6 900 per participant, subject to final confirmation (excludes travel, accommodation and subsistence allowance). Lectures will take place every Saturday from 8:30 to 15:30, starting on 5 May followed by 12, 19 and 26 May and 2, 9, 16 and 23 June.
