ACT is accepting applications from musicians to attend a professional development workshop at the ACT Creative (un)Conference.
The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) invites musicians to attend its Creative (un)Conference taking place on Saturday, 20 July in Maboneng, Johannesburg. The rigorous programme is a professional development workshop for musicians in their first five years of professional practice who are looking to raise their career profile and develop their business acumen.
The one-day course includes practical guidance on making your professional profile an asset, ready for proposals, residencies and applications and record labels or to prepare your mindset for the discipline involved in independently managing and distributing your own music. Jess White, director of Akum Agency and Music director of Littlegig 24H Festival, will discuss the role of social media and fashioning the visuals behind your beats. Jess will cover platforms, handles and hashtags as well as building your fan base and marketing your events and artistry to both promoters, festivals and listeners.
Jonathan Shaw will present is his research on music discovery and the behavioural process consumers employ when encountering new music for the first time.
The day will conclude with an experimental, interdisciplinary expression of serious play in a process-driven exercise presented to no audience led by chart-topping musician Nonku Phiri.
The workshop is limited to 15 participants and will take place on Saturday, 20 July in Maboneng, Johannesburg. In order to be considered, please e-mail a 50-100 word motivation and one reference to firstname.lastname@example.org for an undisclosed panel to review.
