Moses D Arts and Media and Joburg Theatre present Nasty Burn 10-14 August 2016.
Nasty Burn is a play about women abuse at the workplace. The play looks at how senior managers manipulate their female workers through power and status. The play explores power relations between men and women at the workplace and how the hierarchy system adds to this power relation
It traces the story of Kgabo Moleketla who was abused by her father when she was young and also saw her father killing her mother and then killing himself. She is from a background of abusive men and is now experiencing the same problem at the workplace. This results in her hating men. She is assisted at work by the ever consistent strong woman Sasa Raseasala. The play shows what women abuse at the workplace does, its impact on the community and encourages people to speak out and stand tall and firm against it.
The play will be staged during August, women’s month, to raise awareness as to how broad women abuse is and the need for urgent attention to address and obliterate the perpetuation of women abuse. It is a call for the entire society to stand together to condemn, fight, call out, combat and bring about respect, love, care and dignity for women.
