In launching the fundraising campaign, the recently elected chairperson of the school governing body, Ms Linda Mabusela said, “The National School of the Arts has been at the forefront of specialized arts education for 50 years. As custodians of young artists, and governors of this fine school, we need to ensure that the future of the NSA is secure. We believe that this on-going campaign will appeal to all those who understand the enduring value of an arts education.”
“The NSA has a legacy of 50 years! Hundreds of learners have passed through this fine institution of artistic and academic excellence and have gone on to prosper in careers from arts to astrophysics! We aim to raise at least R20k for every year that the National School of the Arts has been in existence and appeal to our alumni and friends to help reach this goal. Fifty years at R20k per year and we will have a million by the end of 2018. We chose to launch the campaign during Youth Month because our youthful creatives are at the core of our campaign. We need to be ready for the new generations of learners at the NSA! #SendMe2NSA!” concluded Mabusela.
The NSA needs champions for this campaign and it is hoped that past learners will spread the word, wherever they are in the world, enabling this to be a winning campaign that prospers the NSA into the next 50 years of specialist arts education!
The goal is to have a sustainable development fund that helps future learners realise their dreams through excellence in arts and academics. The National School of the Arts is a registered charity and offers Section 18A certification for all donations that are received.
Donations can be paid into the school account using the payment reference: #Send Me.
Should the donation come from an NSA alumni it is requested that they include the matric year in the payment reference.

The NSA has exciting development plans to share with the alumni and all those who are passionate about the importance of an arts education, including plans for a re-imagined drama campus and a new theatre. The NSA is an important part of the history of youth arts in South Africa and is a powerful reflection of the current young creatives in South Africa, and with the bold vision and plans for the future in its grasp, will continue to be a bastion of youth arts for the foreseeable future and way beyond. We appeal to all donors and benefactors to ensure that the call of the new generation to “Send me to NSA” – will be answered.
“The future belongs to young people with an education and the imagination to create.” Barack Obama
