Great holiday entertainment; bring the kids along to the timeless musical, Beauty and the Beast, brought to life at the Atterbury Theatre from 11-21 July.
Beauty and the Beast is produced by theatre professional Cameron Botha (with credits including Sweeney Todd, West Side Story, Camelot and more) and directed by Charmain Botha. The title roles are played by Rachelle Weiss as Belle and Dominique Wouters as Beast. Rachelle has performed in Annie 2016 and The Sound of Music 2014 both at the Teatro Montecasino. Dominique toured Europe with the Drakensberg Boys Choir when younger and more recently was seen in Missing at the Atterbury Theatre.
The show is a fresh interpretation of Beauty and the Beast with Belle struggling with the small-town mentality of her village and pursued for her beauty by the handsome, but arrogant and illiterate Gaston (Matthew Otto). Her dad, Maurice (Walter Backeberg), gets lost while travelling and finds himself a prisoner in the castle of a beast. When Belle searches and finds her beloved father there, she trades her freedom to buy his.
In the Beast’s castle, she becomes acquainted with enchanted household objects – Lumiere the candelabra (Gareth Lovell Davies), Babette the feather duster (Lanie Jay), Cogsworth the butler-turned-clock (Danike Korf) and Mrs Potts the teapot (Erin Olive).
Belle’s kindness leads the beast to love, and the rest is history … well fairy-tale magic.
