Passionate pianist Olga Kern plays for JMS

On Saturday 16 March Russian-American pianiste-extraordinaire, Olga Kern will perform in the Linder Auditorium for the Johannesburg Musical Society at 20:00.This Russian-American pianist continues to enthral audiences with her striking stage presence, her passionate and confident musicianship and her extraordinary technique. Ms Kern – since winning the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (the only woman in over thirty years to do so!) – has seen her career sky-rocket.

Also the winner of the Rachmaninov International Piano Competition, Olga Kern has performed with every orchestra of importance in the USA, as well as with orchestras such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Moscow Philharmonic and the Israel Symphony Orchestra. Her recitals have taken her around the world, with her performances in places as far-flung as New York, Beijing, Mexico, Tokyo and Puerto Rico, and she has performed together with artists such as Renee Fleming and Katherine Battle.

For her Johannesburg Musical Society recital, Olga Kern will play Schumann’s delightfully exuberant Carnaval, three Gershwin Preludes, and a dazzling reworking of Fascinating Rhythm by the American pianist-composer Earl Wild. She will also play two études by Scriabin and Balakirev’s Islamey – a tour de force of virtuosity that taxes the performer to the utmost.
