Land Acts, from the team that brought you the award-winning satirical revues Pay Back the Curry (2016) and State Fracture (2017), comes to Sandton.
Fresh from the National Arts Festival, the revue by Mike van Graan, directed by Rob van Vuuren, with Daniel Mpilo Richards, is presented by Daphne Kuhn by arrangement with MVG & DMR Productions at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square from 10 – 28 July. In June the production enjoyed a sell-out season and rave revues in Cape Town at the Kalk Bay theatre where it premiered.
Written by Mike van Graan (Green Man Flashing), directed by Rob van Vuuren and again featuring the incredibly talented Daniel Mpilo Richards, Land Acts takes on the theme of land, the catalyst for much controversy and anxiety within the contemporary South African landscape.
Land Acts has evoked enthusiastic audience responses for its varied perspectives on the land theme, for the theatricality of the show and its diverse forms of song, drama, storytelling and poetry, and for the sheer talent of its solo performer.
Pay Back the Curry and State Fracture both premiered on the Fringe of the National Arts Festival, while Land Acts has been developed over the course of its short run at the Kalk Bay Theatre before its season at the National Arts Festival, and its run at the Theatre on the Square.
Pay Back the Curry was performed more than 120 times around the country, earning critical acclaim and consistently high praise for Richard’s performance for which he won the 2016 Naledi Theatre Award for the Best Newcomer/Breakthrough Artist. State Fracture picked up a Standard Bank Ovation Award and Richards earned the Standard Bank Ovation Award for Stand-Out Performance at the National Arts Festival in 2017. Richards has performed a combination of sketches from both shows at the Jive Cape Town Comedy Festival as well as abroad in Kigali, Rwanda; the Comedy Festival in London and most recently in Stockholm, Sweden.
Land Acts promises to be at least as provocatively entertaining as its predecessors. Bookings can be made through Computicket – www.computicket.com or tele-book on 0861 915800.
