On Saturday morning’s edition of Saturday’s Role With Reno, host Renos Spanoudes spoke to Annali Dempsey about the Restoration of Greek sculptures at the UJ Art Gallery.
Restoration of Greek scultpures.
Conservator Ekkehard Hans will restore castings of ancient Greek sculptures donated to the University of Johannesburg by the Greek community in the 1970’s. Members of the public, school groups and interested individuals are invited to watch the master at work and interact with him at the UJ Art Gallery from 31 July to 11 August 2017, weekdays between 10 00 and 14 00.
Ekkehard Hans will present a lecture on the processes involved in the restoration of artworks in different media and Rika Nortjé will address preventative conservation and basic house-keeping in the museum environment. This includes basic cleaning and handling of artworks, being mindful of the materials used in the art-making process and aspects to consider when artworks are to be installed and travelling.
LECTURE: Wednesday 2 August 2017 – 14 00
Annali Dempsey is the curator of the UJ Art Gallery. Listen to Renos’ interview with Annali Dempsey here:
