On Saturday morning’s edition of Saturday’s Role With Reno, host Renos Spanoudes spoke to Refiloe Lepere about her journey in theatre.
Refiloe Lepere is a writer, director, and lecturer. As a Post-Graduate Research Coordinator, she taught Critical Reflexive Praxis at Drama for Life at the University of Witwatersrand.
She earned her MA from New York University and is a Think Fellow and Ford Foundation Fellow. She is studying towards a PhD; looking at the efficacy of Performance as a Research Method that can be used to document the oral histories of domestic workers in South Africa.
In her work as a journalist, director, and playwright, Refiloe weaves history, statistics and personal narratives to address issues of social (in)justice, intersectional identities and black people.
Refiloe travels across the country performing, presenting, and facilitating workshops on writing political theatre, race and diversity.
Refiloe spoke about her journey in the arts and theatre, and about numerous projects including Bite Size Theatre that takes theatre into people’s homes.
