Sophiatown Jazz Encounters celebrates Freedom DayOn Friday, 26 April at 8pm, Sophiatown Jazz Encounters presents trumpet player and bandleader Neo Leleka, featuring ”the Silence Project”.


The Sophiatown Jazz Festival brings us new sounds, original compositions and, of course, the old favourites – it’s a great way to celebrate Freedom Day.

Neo Leleka is a teacher and performer, leading a number of collaborations across the country. He studied music at Funda Community College and specialized in both western and African music. He has performed with musicians, dance and theatre companies locally and internationally.

Neo has been teaching African music for 18 years and is currently playing the first trumpet for EJE and teaches African Music at St Mary Girls School. He recently performed for both the Archbishop of Cape Town and the American Archbishop Michael Curry, with his trio featuring Zanele Dlamini.
