Mike van Graan’s State Fracture with Daniel Mpilo Richards, directed by Rob van Vuuren, is at the Auto and General Theatre on the Square from 18-29 July.
After a successful run of the award-winning production, Pay Back the Curry, Daniel Mpilo Richards is back in Sandton in Mike Van Graan’s new show State Fracture, presented by Daphne Kuhn by arrangement with Siv Ngesi.
For regular audience members, families, corporates and companies, looking for the perfect, fun-filled, provocative and hilarious entertainment to keep you warm during this winter season… look no further!
State Fracture opens at Sandton’s Auto & General Theatre on the Square from 18 July for a two-week run. Direct from the National Arts Festival, this promises to be just as funny as the first instalment of this satirical sketch comedy. Daniel Mpilo Richards recently won the award for best Breakthrough Artist at the Naledi Awards for his chameleon-like performance in the side-splittingly funny comedy, Pay Back the Curry. This satirical revue achieved a rare feat at the 2016 National Arts Festival by selling out all its eight shows! The Festival newspaper, CUE, described it as “an important production for all South Africans… clever, witty and on-point… a brilliant performance”.
With the script by award-winning playwright Mike van Graan (Green Man Flashing, Bafana Republic and Rainbow Scars) theatre icon Rob van Vuuren directs the young and multi-talented Daniel Mpilo Richards. The 80-minute show takes on many current, topical themes which have proved popular with audiences ranging from Franschhoek and Delft to Khayelitsha and Jabulani in Soweto.
Audiences have responded enthusiastically to the topicality of the piece, its cathartic commentary and the outstanding performance of Daniel Richards.
State Fracture will run at the Auto & General Theatre on the Square from 18 July for two weeks. There will be 6 performances per week – Tuesdays to Fridays at 8.15pm and two shows on Saturdays at 6pm and 8.15pm. Enquire about dinner show specials and group discounts. Originally produced by Siv Ngesi, the show has received warm responses from audiences and critics alike:

“Sometimes, you witness something AMAZING, like this show, and all you can say is YOHHHH!” – Marc Lottering
“…provocative, intelligent, emotive and extremely witty…” – Siyabonga Mahomba, What’s On
