Market Theatre FoundationThe forensic investigation sanctioned by the Minister of Arts & Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, in 2018 into the affairs of the Market Theatre Foundation has been concluded.

The forensic report has been handed to the Council of the Market Theatre Foundation for consideration and consequence management. Since the Market Theatre Foundation intends offering those staff members implicated in the report fair process and the right of reply, the findings in the forensic report is sub judice. The Market Theatre Foundation will issue a statement at the appropriate time.

The Market Theatre Foundation also wishes to announce that with effect from 21 December 2018 the Minister of Arts & Culture appointed Gerald Themba Dumas as the Chairperson of the Council of the Market Theatre Foundation to succeed the former Chairperson of Council, Kwanele Gumbi. The other members of the Council appointed in terms of the Cultural Institutions Act No 119 of 1998 are Nalini Maharaj, Shado Twala, Sershan Naidoo and Kopano Xaba. Council members Brooks Spector and Sebiletso Matabane resigned from the Council in August 2018. Council member Unathi Malunga resigned on 19 January 2019. The Department of Arts & Culture is in the process of replacing the recent vacancies in keeping the Council fully constituted.

The Market Theatre Foundation remains committed to good governance and to ensuring that its four business units – Market Theatre, Market Theatre Laboratory, Market Photo Workshop and the Windybrow Arts Centre – continue to deliver excellent programming. With more than 320 awards for artistic excellence and 3 awards for human rights, the Market Theatre Foundation is celebratory and critically reflective of its past, responsive to the present time and visionary about its future.
