The 14th Annual Naledi Theatre Awards will be held at the Teatro Montecasino on Monday 18 June. Says Naledi founder Dawn Lindberg, “We are thrilled to be holding the awards at the Teatro, one of Jozi’s most prestigious theatres.”
The Naledis are always held on a Monday evening as in true theatre tradition most theatres are ‘dark’ on Mondays and it means the nominees and guests alike can attend the prestigious awards ceremony.
As usual, this year’s gala event will be a star-studded affair, with red carpet glam being the order of the day. The event starts with a glass of wine at 6pm, giving everyone ample time to catch up with the latest showbiz buzz and great networking opportunities. Doors to the theatre open at 7pm and the show will begin strictly at 7:30pm. (The awards will be filmed for broadcast on Kyknet on 5 August, so latecomers will unfortunately not be admitted.)
Funding for the awards has been slow coming in this year, hence the ceremony only taking place in June; however, our generous sponsors have made the Naledis possible for the 14th year running. The Naledi Board would like to thank Tsogo Sun, Kyknet, Splitbeam, DWR, Fleur Du Cap, Classic 1027, BASA, The Market Theatre, and The State Theatre for acknowledging the importance of the annual Naledi Awards and for helping us recognize the incredible talent we have to offer in South Africa.
Entertainment for the evening will be provided by the crème de la crème of performers in South Africa, featuring numbers from West Side Story, Evita, and Avenue Q, to name a few. This year we are also very excited to welcome the Gauteng Opera to the Naledi Stage. A whole galaxy of theatre and television stars will present the awards themselves.
As always, the public is invited to join us on the red carpet and rub shoulders with the who’s who of South African theatre. Tickets for the event are on sale at Computicket for R200 per person. So if your dream has been to meet your favourite theatre personalities and the chance to wear your most glamorous red carpet ready outfits, then this is your opportunity. Book now because there are limited seats available and they are selling out fast.
Mike Page, GM of Montecasino, is delighted to welcome the Naledis to the Teatro. “This annual event is a wonderful tribute to the best on South Africa’s stages – in performing, sound, directing, choreography, costumes, and more – and we believe that the Teatro, which has been a proud part of the evolution of the theatre industry in South Africa for 11 years, is the ideal venue for the industry and their fans and supporters to get together to celebrate their world-class achievements. It will be a night to remember.”
A cash bar will operate on the evening, and for guests who may be peckish, we suggest that you eat before the event or make plans to dine at one of the great restaurants in Montecasino afterwards.
