Eight young classical pianists performed during the first day of the 6th Unisa National Piano Competition in the ZK Matthews Great Hall, showcasing their mastery of Baroque music as well as impressing the jury with virtuosic pieces on Friday 19 July 2019.
The first round continues on 20 July 2019 at 14:00 with the Jazz Category.
On Sunday 21 July at 11:00, Round 2 continues for the classical pianists, giving the competitors another chance to impress the jury before the first elimination takes place. During Round 2 all classical competitors must perform a sonata from the classical period and a South African composition. Jazz pianists must perform a Latin American jazz standard, a South African jazz composition and a jazz piece composed after 1975 during the second round.
Tickets for the classical category cost R90 per day and R60 per day for the jazz category.
