The Market Theatre Foundation, a legislated cultural Institution governed in terms of the Cultural Institutions Act No 119 of 1998, calls for applications from suitably qualified persons to serve on the Audit Committee of the Market Theatre Foundation.
The Audit Committee’s role is to provide independent oversight of the Foundation’s systems of internal control, risk management and financial reporting, and through supervision of the quality, independence and effectiveness of both the internal and external auditors.
The appointment is on a part-time basis for a term of three years, with the possibility of re-appointment for a maximum of two terms, subject to mutual agreement. Remuneration is only for preparation and attendance at meetings of the Audit Committee; and the rate of remuneration is per set National Treasury regulations.
Applications are invited from candidates who have qualifications in finance and experience in Risk Management, Internal / External Audit, Compliance and Governance; and a wide range of personal characteristics, skills, knowledge and minimum of five years of relevant experience; and who can work effectively in a team with other Committee members, Council members and the Market Theatre Foundation’s Senior Executive Team. Applicants must be able to read, understand and analyse both written and numerical reports presented to the Committee for decision, scrutiny and information and to draw out critical points for discussion. The applicants must also be able to make balanced and informed decisions, consider the long-term implications and broader view of issues, spotting opportunities, identifying key risks and the means of mitigating them. The applicants must have a thorough understanding of legal and financial guidelines set out in current legislation, including the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).
