It is with great excitement that the Executive Chairperson of the Naledi Theatre Awards, Kgomotso Christopher, is able to announce that the Naledis have found a new theatre home for their awards ceremonies for the next three years. Says Christopher: “The Joburg Theatres have come on board as our venue sponsor, which we believe is the perfect venue to host these prestigious awards.”

Christopher continues: “Over the past 15 years, the Naledi Awards have become the benchmark for excellence in theatre and have also become a respected theatrical institution. It is therefore fitting that the awards are hosted at a City of Johannesburg venue.”

CEO of the Joburg Theatres, Xoliswa Ngema, says: “We are looking forward to hosting the Naledi Theatre Awards Event on the Mandela Stage for the next 3 years. The Naledis are one of the most important dates on the Gauteng theatre calendar and is keenly awaited by the entire industry. The Joburg Theatre complex is the perfect venue for Naledi, as it is easily accessible from north and south, with plenty of safe underground parking. The Mandela Stage has the most sophisticated technical equipment with lifts and fly facilities as well as being ideal for television as well. Although seating over 1 000, it retains an intimate feel with the mezzanines on either side, and a box at the rear of the stalls for the mayoral party and other dignitaries who may attend.”

CEO and founder of the Naledis, Dawn Lindberg, has a thrilling line-up of acts, performances and presenters to make these awards the best Naledis ever.

“The size, versatility and technical infrastructure of the Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre gives us the opportunity to really showcase the fantastic acts and abundant talent that we have seen throughout the 2018 voting season,” she says; “and our very special thanks also go to Alistair Kilby of Splitbeam for sponsoring all the state of the art technical equipment required to sexy up our staging and spectacle, and to Josh Cutts of Visual Frontiers, for stunning lighting designs. The Naledis will be shot for television by Clive Morris of CMP, now owned by Lala Tuku and Dom Gumede, and broadcast on Kyknet and Mzansi Magic on dates to be confirmed.

The Nominations Reveal will be held on Monday 11 March 2019 @ the Fringe Theatre @ The Joburg Theatre Complex.

The 2019 Naledi Theatre Awards Event for productions staged during 2018 will be held on Monday 20 May 2019 on the Mandela Stage @ the Joburg Theatre
