Kick off your festive season with Thursday Late at the Iziko South African National Gallery (ISANG).
Enjoy FREE ENTRY to a specially curated programme of art, performances, live music, DJ’s and food trucks on 7 December from 6pm – 9pm.
Six amazing exhibitions are on show at the ISANG, each offering something unique to admire.
Footprints – a black and white photographic exhibition is the culmination of 25 years of work by Andrew Tshabangu. The Standard Bank Young Artist 2017, Beth Armstrong’s in perpetuum highlights the use of sculpture to explore different expressions density and looseness in relation to scale, structure, materiality, space, representation and process.
Hidden Treasures presents works from the Gallery’s permanent collection – some never seen before! The ancient art of abstraction is explored in Assessing Abstraction; while Painted Surfaces showcases groundbreaking research of famous South African paintings, bringing to light the artist’s process.
Through critical art caricatures, Derek Bauer’s Alternative Press exhibits fiercely independent and challenging views of the then apartheid government. Contemporary cartoonist Brandan Reynolds, whose works are influenced by Bauer, will be presenting live cartoon drawings.
Live performances include South African poetry performance trio Khoi Khonnexion; dancer Jackie Manyaapelo and DJ Daylite will be entertaining guests in the Gallery Atrium.
Thursday Late at the ISANG is an initiative of Thursdays Projects, in collaboration with Iziko Museums of South Africa and made possible with the generous support of Boschendal Wines and the Friends of the South African National Gallery.
