The Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Drama and Film (Drama) will present a selection of 29 student excerpts during the annual Rostrum Roulette Festival that will take place at the Rostrum Theatre, Arts Campus, from tomorrow, 22 June until Saturday, 25 June. The theme of this year’s Festival is Unity in Motion.
The Festival is a practical evaluation for both third-year Directing and B Tech: Arts Administration Drama students.
Directing students get the opportunity to direct an excerpt/abstract/adaptation of a published play of their choice, making use of Drama students as cast members. The schedule for the evaluation showings, as well as venue management, safety, ticket sales and any other organisation of the Festival, are handled by B Tech: Drama students. This gives all the students an opportunity to participate in a practical mini-festival.
Previously, the Festival has attracted a number of audiences to the Arts Campus, despite the fact that it is a learning platform. This year’s opening ceremony will take place at the Rostrum Theatre today, 21 June (19:00) and will feature Batsile “BoyWonder” Ramasodi (Mr Sokhulu – Generations: The Legacy), Tselane Mashilo (The Poet), TUT’s Dance Department, and a preview of NO EXIT (National Arts Festival student production).
Performances take place in and around the Rostrum Theatre from 9:30 to 16:30. Ticket prices are R5 and R15 for the week.
