Apart from presenting some of the finest South African and international exponents of jazz & blues, the event creates a platform to showcase young, up-coming talent from local music schools and institutions This year it’s on the opening night,

  • Thursday 25 January, in a variety concert titled ‘Students & all that Jazz!’… a concert full of surprises with music students of note!
  • Then the masters of the Blues take to the stage on Friday evening 26 January with a stellar line-up directed by veteran guitarist Mike Slavin in a programme filled with Blues from the Mississippi to Chicago with touches of Country, Folk and Blues Rock. The band known as The Mike Slavin Blues Project includes the talents of another veteran guitarist Richard Thompson, plus the amazing keyboard wizard Clive Goodwill with Charlie Johnstone on electric bass, Rob Watson drums and singer Ms Ally Ogston!
  • Moving on to Saturday and Sunday 27 and 28 January, the Jazz & Blues Weekend takes on an international flavour with a debut performance in Sandton by the outstanding Italian jazz pianist and vocalist, Ms Francesca Tandoi. Fresh from the European jazz festivals and clubs of New York, Ms Tandoi is set to make a lasting impression on local audiences with her inimitable style and unique approach to jazz and improvised music.

World-renowned jazz pianist Monty Alexander says: “Francesca Tandoi is a supremely tastefully swinging pianist – she can play! Her vocals are exquisite, her unique accent adds to the charm of the interpretations and I believe she’ll be making beautiful sounds for a long time …”

Ms Tandoi will be accompanied by jazz drummer Tony Yoko and bassist Marc Duby with special guest appearances by saxophonist Justin Holcroft and jazz singer Andrew Massey.

This once-off collaboration is for the discerning jazz fan and should not be missed.
