The 30th edition of the annual Dance Umbrella festival will run from March 7 -18, 2018 at various venues all over Johannesburg
Funded by the National Lotteries Board, the Dance Umbrella 2018 will be a celebration of South African contemporary choreography and dance and will present new work from both local and international choreographers.
Applications are open and the Dance Umbrella invites choreographers to apply for a new commissioned work, Dance Exchange which is a collaboration between two or more companies and the Stepping Stones programme.
The commissioning fees will be allocated to professional companies who have created a new work or a work not yet seen in Johannesburg. The festival will pay a commissioning fee, all production costs, publicity and marketing and local transport. Outside companies will have to get themselves to the festival.
The Dance Exchange programme is a residency programme that must be held out of Gauteng/Johannesburg and must include a two week workshop process of teaching and the creation of the work for Dance Umbrella.
Closing date for entries to the Dance Umbrella 2018 in August 18,2017.
