Bekezela, one of southern Africa’s favourite Soul singers, who has a self-titled album, will be gracing the stage at the (Red Theatre) in partnership with The Soweto Theatre. He delivers the kind of tunes that pluck at our heartstrings with his honeyed voice. This son of Africa will be showcasing his stimulating songwriting that breaks language and culture stereotypes.
Bekezela joins a list of accomplished performers that have had audiences asking for more and he promises no less.
‘’I look forward to this performance. We have been hard at work, creating a production that will capture the essence of love. I look forward to walking on the same road as some of the greats that have presented their work at this great theatre,’’ says Bekezela with a smile.
Ringo Madlingozi and Sliq Angel are some of the artists that the Soweto Theatre has had the pleasure of listing. They are an act to follow for this young Zimbabwe-born instrumentalist.
As we celebrate the month of love, Bekezela is looking forward to singing love songs to couples and singles alike. This explosive vocal dynamite will be hosted by the distinguished Bongani Drama on Friday evening 23 February at 20h00. The smash hits ‘Bekezela’ and ‘Sondela’, enjoying airplay across various platforms, are among the songs you can expect to hear. The theatre has set itself high standards for all the work they promote.
‘’Soweto Theatre continues to showcase world-class African theatre and musical productions. Celebrating the best of Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa and Africa we go fearlessly on the road to excellence. We want Soweto Theatre to be the top of mind tourist destination for anyone visiting South Africa who wants to hear African stories being told and performed. We stage pieces that our local community can relate to and what an international audience will thoroughly enjoy.” – Nomsa Mazwai (General Manager)
