This festive season the Playhouse Company presents Glued, one of the most intelligent and irreverent comedies ever to come out of South Africa in recent times.Glued brings together Krijay Govender, Leeanda Reddy and Kasaren Pillay, all of whom are well-known actors in the South African television and stage scenes.
Glued brings together this zany bunch that is ready to tickle every funny muscle in your body over the holiday season. Leeanda Reddy is a film, television and stage actress who has performed all over the country as well as internationally and has received numerous accolades for her glowing performances. She is a familiar face on South African screens, known for her on screen role as Priyanka Naicker on SABC 3’s Isidingo. She also starred as the female lead opposite Leon Schuster in South Africa’s premier grossing comedy movie “Mr Bones 2”. Even though Leeanda is an old hand at both the small and big screens; she remains more at home on the live stage, especially stage comedy. Reddy is also working on international projects and is branching into the restaurant business.
Krijay Govender was previously voted by the media as the funniest woman in South Africa. She was described by the Sunday Times premier columnist Gwen Gill as one of the top three Master of Ceremonies (MCs) in South Africa. In 2013 Krijay participated in the Edinburg Festival in Scotland as playwright/performer and played granny in the best- selling movie Material. Govender is the winner of four SAFTA awards for TV directing.
Kasaren Pillay is a comedian, stage and screen actor who started with Shakespeare and comic sketches. He will be remembered as a presenter in Going Nowhere Slowly and was a popular figure in Survivor South Africa. Pillay is best known for his role as the nasty villain in the top grossing Mr Bones 2.
Coming to The Playhouse this December Glued is sure to keep audiences stuck to every word and tumbling with laughter. It sends up a screen- addicted generation with broad canvass of skit comedy- from Soap to News to Reality TV… a world our performers know all too well. Wildlife TV is taken to a new height of comedy with the appearance of an established South African comedy character, Uncle Eric. Of course with him in the mix it is unclear who exactly the actual wildlife is. On the sporting front we are treated to action and comedic commentary from the Rugby World Cup to the Commonwealth gymnastics at Moses Madiba (a stadium (that Nelson Mandela built … ha ha).
With great previous hits like Buckled and Queens of Comedy, it is clear that this team with their new production Glued provides the perfect comedy treat to bring laughter into your festive season. This is not to be missed.
Glued will be at the Playhouse from 22-23 December 2016 at only R150 a ticket at Computicket and at the Playhouse Box Office.
