In an all-Schubert programme and to mark 100 years of Restoration of the State of Lithuania, Muza Rubackyte will play Schubert’s Wanderer Fantasy. This is the second concert in the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra’s in the 12th International Festival. The concert with Lithuania’s leading pianist Muza Rubacktyte will take place tomorrow (Thursday, February 8), under the direction of the German maestro Jochen Rieder at Artscape Opera at 20:00. The sound of the Opera House has been enhanced with the addition of an acoustic shell, which was a winner in the opening concert of the festival on February 1.
The Wanderer Fantasy, a set of variations on an art song by Schubert, was originally written for solo piano in 1816. It was orchestrated by Liszt. Rieder will also conduct the Symphony no 3 in D, as well as Rendering, an orchestration with transcriptions of sketches left by Schubert, most likely to a 4th Symphony.
Ms Rubackyte has released more than 30 CDs in her stellar career which includes such challenges as playing the complete “Years of Pilgrimage” in Bayreuth. She is the Grand Prize winner of the Liszt-Bartok International Piano Competition in Budapest and the Concours international Les Grands Maîtres Français in Paris.
There will be a pre-concert talk at 19:15 presented by Rodney Trudgeon; the dress rehearsal is at 12.00. Tickets for the dress rehearsal are available an hour before at the Box office on the ground floor.
