It chronicles the adventures of teenage buddies Bal-Oog and his best friend Brommel. The comic is written by Sjaka Septembir, illustrated by Willem Samuel and coloured by Swart Streep and has now been brought to life on stage, featuring some of the country’s top performers.
Produced by Swart Septembir, the production is adapted for the stage with text by actor, writer, director and producer Sjaka Septembir. Die Avonture van Bal-Oog en Brommel: Moord in Ixia Straat is directed by award-winning Gideon Lombard (Die Reuk van Appels, …miskien, The View, Suidooster) and stars Richard September (Rooivalk, Rondomskrik, Marat/Sade) as Brommel and De Klerk Oelofse (Liewe Heksie: Flower Power, Na-aap, Balbesit) as Bal-Oog, with live music by Gertjie Besselsen (Segs Vir Almal, Die Vlammende Fez, Die Storm).
The hilarious detective story is told in comic book style that will take you on an exciting roller-coaster journey with the loveable duo of Bal-Oog and Brommel.
Who murdered Kobus? What lies behind the murder? Bal-Oog and Brommel decide to investigate. When Boltjie – Bal-Oog’s dog – gets a sniff of something rotten, Bal-Oog and Brommel suddenly find themselves on an adventure filled with laughs and thrills – which leads them into the dark underworld of Milnerton.
To complicate matters, Bal-Oog is in love with Anja – murdered Kobus’s girlfriend. And what is this mysterious bowl? Is it linked to Kobus‘s murder?
“Bal-Oog and Brommel embark on their first detective adventure, which leads to a series of hilarious situations,” says Septembir. “Among all the excitement, they find they actually perhaps don’t want to save the world, and just want to enjoy their holiday and make music. I am very excited about the team bringing this story to life, which is going to be a visual and theatrical feast!”.
