In fashion, time is defined as a style consciousness, measured in units of seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks and ultimately seasons.
Fashion Times, the fitting theme for this year’s fashion show by the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Fashion Design and Technology, will therefore showcase the era of style evolution and interpret past and future trends.
The show line up will unveil first- to fourth-year student work, focusing on the third-year collections.
According to Prof Anne Mason, Head of Department, the future of fashion lies in the hands of these young, up-and-coming, entrepreneurial designers who are being honed at the iconic Fashion Design Department. The Department invites the public to come and experience the existence of time – in the here and now – through moments in fashion with these inspiring young designers.
The student collections will be adjudicated and awarded prizes by a team of celebrity judges, such as Ndileka Mandela from the Mandela Foundation, Thula Sindi (a prominent South African fashion designer) and Jerry Magofe (a renowned fashion blogger).
This year’s sponsors range from suppliers of industrial equipment, fabric and haberdashery, to suppliers of art equipment. They include Berzack Brothers (Johannesburg), Johannesburg Sewing Centre, Metro Home City, and Queens Lifestyle Centre.
The event will be held at 012 Central (Opposite SA Reserve Bank), 15 March 2017 at 18:30 for 19:00. Tickets are R100 and available at the door or at the Department (012 382 6082).
