FRIENDS of Music Durban will be hosting a concert featuring ‘Maritzburg concert pianist, Christopher Duigan, at 7.30pm on Tuesday, November 8 at the Durban Jewish Centre, 44 K. E. Masinga (Old Fort) Road, Durban.

He completed his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where he was awarded the professional performer’s diploma and won first prize in the prestigious RNCM Recital prize for pianists.

Duigan, a Steinway artist, will be performing the music of French-Polish pianist and composer, Frédéric Chopin.

The programme includes a selection of the composer’s music, including: the Ballade No 3, Scherzo No.1 and nocturnes, mazurkas and waltzes.

Duigan will also be discussing the insight he gained into Chopin’s life and his music while on a trip to Warsaw, Poland, and the Chopin Museum last year.

The pianist has devoted much time to the study and performance of Chopin’s music in his professional career over the last 25 years and was invited to give two recital programmes of the composer’s music at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown in 2010 on the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth.

Tickets for the concert are R80 for members, R100 for non-members and orchestral players and R20 for students. They can be bought at the door.
