Local singer, songwriter, producer and actor claims top spot in Local is Lekker singing Competition, in association with KFM and Vangate Mall in Cape Town.
Gino Lee has been entertaining audiences with his soothing vocals for years. The Port Elizabeth born and bred singer, songwriter, producer and actor has achieved more than most his age, and there ain’t no stopping him now. With a steady list of accolades already on his belt, he continues to steal people’s hearts with his undeniable talent, as he did this past weekend at Vangate Mall.
Chosen as one of the top 10 finalists in the Local is Lekker singing competition, Gino Lee let his vocals do the talking at the Local is Lekker music festival – presented in partnership with KFM, People’s Post, Coca Cola and Vodacom – on Saturday 25 March at Vangate Mall. It was here that he won over the judges, comprising Nur Abrahams (singer), Brandon Leigh (KFM), Gary van Dyk (People’s Post) and Tamara Ngcizela (Vangate Mall), and took home first prize.
He walked away with R10 000 in fashion vouchers, as well as the opportunity to record a new single at Big House Studios which will debut on KFM.
A self-proficient producer, responsible for recording the majority of his own material, this opportunity will push him outside his comfort zone, taking his already first-rate songs to new heights.
He says, “Winning this competition has been a dream come true! One of my main goals is to get a track on radio and this was an opportunity that I couldn’t miss. I’m so grateful, happy and excited for all the extra prizes I received and I can’t wait to get the ball rolling!”
Gino Lee recently returned from a two-year stint in LA to build a fanbase back home. Moving from the windy city, he relocated to Cape Town in search of a bigger and better audience. Well on his way to claiming Capetonian territory, Gino Lee is a born star – nothing is ever half measure.
While we wait to hear what magic he will create in studio this time, Gino Lee’s latest single Coconut is currently on rotation on SA radio, slowly gaining its deserved attention.
A force to be reckoned with, watch this space… Gino Lee is nothing short of extraordinary.
