Joburg Ballet will be joined by the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra for a special Heritage Day performance in Roodepoort on Friday, 21 September. In partnership with both the Johannesburg West and Johannesburg Central Districts of the Gauteng Department of Education, the company will showcase a range of ballet highlights, including The Dying Swan and extracts from a brand new production of The Nutcracker, for over 600 learners from seven schools at Hoërskool Roodepoort.
CEO Esther Nasser commented, “It’s always wonderful to take our work out of the studio and into the heart of the community; performances like these help to introduce young people to our work and to the excitement of live theatre. We’re particularly proud that children from Joburg Ballet School will be performing for their fellow learners in Roodepoort alongside our professional dancers.”
Due to demand, entrance is limited to participating schools and invited guests only. However, the public has the opportunity to see students from Joburg Ballet School during Joburg Ballet’s upcoming season of The Nutcracker at Joburg Theatre from 5 to 14 October, when children from the School will have the chance to gain valuable experience performing on stage with the full Joburg Ballet company.
