The Market Theatre Laboratory invites community theatre groups to apply to take part in 2017 Community Theatre Practitioners Incubator programme.
Aimed to improve the skills of writers, directors, designers and actors the programme will empower participants to create and produce home grown local content of a high standard and generate exciting new productions for the theatre-going public.
The programme is strategically designed to assist emerging practitioners — the next generation of community arts leaders, arts entrepreneurs and administrators — to hone their skills through mentorship and to propel their careers from amateur to professional status by exposing them to both the creative and practical sides of producing a professional theatre production.
The incubation programme is sponsored by the Department of Arts and Culture aims to help.
In order to be considered to take part in the programme applicants must be:
- Resident in Gauteng
- between 18 and 35 years old
Should you meet the above eligibility criteria, the following needs to be submitted for your application to be evaluated:
- A duly completed showcase application form
- Certified ID copies of the creative team (director and author)
- 100-word narrative biographies of the writer and the director
- Artistic treatment of the proposed play
- One scene from the proposed play
To increase effectiveness, efficiency and productivity the successful applicants must commit to working with mentors/ fieldworkers that are identified and selected by the Market Theatre Foundation and as per the agreed schedules.
When applying, applicants must note that they will need to be available for the following dates and activities:
- Bootcamp: 13 – 16 March 2017
- Showcases: 22 April – 13 May 2017
Applications must be received by no later than 15:00 on Friday 10 February 2017. No late applications will be accepted.
