British uber-clarinetist Michael Collins presents two rare recitals in Cape Town on February 5 and 7.
Collins MBE, won the first BBC Young Musician of the Year award at age 16 and made his debut at Carnegie Hall six years later. With a residency at the Wigmore Hall, he enjoys a glittering career as soloist, conductor and recording artist with many of the world’s most significant orchestras. Collins also has the distinction of being the most frequently invited wind soloist to the BBC Proms, including several appearances at the renowned Last Night of the Proms.
He presents a programme of the best works in the repertoire for clarinet and piano by composers Schumann, Brahms, Finzi, Lutoslawski and Poulenc, accompanied by Luis Magalhães.
This world class duo performs on Sunday 5 February at Christ Church Constantia at 15:00 (tickets R100, call 082 218 0100 to pre-book) and also on Tuesday 7 February at 20:00 at St Andrews Greenpoint (cnr Somerset and Chiappini).
