A musical, poetic and hilarious women’s month finale at Soweto Theatre.
On 25 August @20h00 it’s Personal with… Mpume Dhlamini : an all-rounder, talented, multi-instrumentalist whose career dates back to days when he teamed up with Lira as a band and producing albums for the likes of Zama Jobe as well a collaboration with Proverb. Dhlamini’s first album got him a South African Music Awards nomination for ‘Best Newcomer’ and Metro FM Awards nomination for ‘Best Jazz Album’. Adm R150.
Here is an opportunity to spend An Evening with… Lindiwe Maxolo featuring popular musicians, Lwanda Gogwana, Gloria Bosman and Sibongile Khumalo this Saturday 26 August @20h00. Maxolo is a prolific musician whose career took off in 2002, after winning the best Afro vocalist at the Old Mutual Jazz Encounters Competition, she has previously been nominated in the SAMA’s, the SATMA’s and Mbokodo awards where she scooped an accolade in the Best women in Jazz category. For women’s month she has reserved an entire evening to perform at Soweto Theatre’s regular last-Saturday experience “An Evening with…” suffused with angelic chords, notes and tones; her sound is an acoustic experience that incorporates both African Jazz and Traditional Jazz influences. On the last Thursday of every month it’s Poetic Thursdays – taking poetry where it has never gone before. Words are mutated into animated and enchanting forms rendering audiences on the edge of their seats, begging for more. Hosted by Poetic Justice and featuring some of SA’s most prolific poets, Thursday evenings in Soweto will never be the same again that’s for sure! Admission R30. The next session is on 31 August at 20:00, running simultaneously with Ghetto Laughs.
At the blue theatre is where you will find the chuckles, giggles and outright bursts of convulsive laughter as the most celebrated comedians gather to deliver the hilarious narratives and punchlines. See you on the last Thursday of the month at 20:00, Ghetto Laughs features Comics Choice award winner Khanyisa Bunu, Soweto’s own Sister-H aka Emelda, Thulani McKing & trendy host Phillip Dikotla who dedicate the upcoming line-up to all the ladies this women’s month.
