Just in time for the holidays! Join National Children’s Theatre (NCT) in this fun musical romp as we end the year with the South African premiere of Mr Popper’s Penguins, on stage from Tuesday 8 November 2016. This playful, enchanting comedy will send everyone out with a happy smile and tapping feet. This production has been made possible by part of a grant of R2m from the National Lotteries commission (NLC).
In the small town of Stillwater, Mr and Mrs Popper and their two children live uneventful lives. But when a surprise package for the Poppers produces a penguin, chaos waddles into their lives! Soon, the Poppers home and hearts are filled with not one, not two, but a whole bunch of boisterous black and white birds. But the birds have to eat – and food costs money – money that the Poppers don’t have! Eventually Mr Popper solves the problem by teaching the penguins to dance and taking them on tour around the country.
This family-friendly show features singing, dancing, comedy, and some valuable lessons. We learn from Mr Popper that you should never give up on your dreams, no matter how old you are or what happens in your life, you should always strive to do what you want to do and keep your passion alive.
Directed by Francois Theron, this family musical is pure theatre magic. Musical Director: Clint Lesch, Choreographer: Chantal Herman, Costume Design: Sarah Roberts, Set Design: Stan Knight and Lighting: Jane Gosnell.
The talented cast includes Samuel Hyde (recent international tour of Singing In The Rain) as Mr Popper and Sanli Jooste (Recently seen in Sweeney Todd and Altyd In My Drome) as Mrs Popper. The rest of the cast: Bethany Joy Harding, Siphiwe Nkabinde, Naret Loots and Thokozani Jiyane and child actors from NCT workshops.
This is a must-see show for the whole family. Reserve your seats now to see professional children’s theatre at its best!
