NCT chalks up seven Naledi nominations

NCT writes: National Children’s Theatre was thrilled to see the announcement for the nominees for the Naledi Awards for 2016 which included seven nominations for our theatre.

We are especially proud of Khokho’s Treasure, which has been created by NCT and has also been selected as a main stage production for the ASSITEJ International Theatre Festival for Children and Young Audiences in May 2017 in Cape Town.

BEST PERFORMANCE IN A CHILDREN’S THEATRE PRODUCTION

  • Gamelihle Bovana – Library Lion
  • Thapelo Sebogodi – Shakespeare’s Coriolanus
  • Veronique Mensah – Library Lion

This is Gamelihle’s second nomination for this award in an NCT production. In 2015 he won this category for his performance in James and the Giant Peach.

We would like to congratulate the long-standing members of our NCT creative team on being nominated: Sarah Roberts for Best Set Design and Best Costume Design for iLembe, and Rowan Bakker for Best Musical Director for Shrek the Musical.

We’re also very proud of our alumni:

  • Kayli Elit Smith: Cheers to Sarajevo – Best Set Design
  • Tiaan Slabbert: best supporting actor in a play – Porselein
  • Kate Normington: best lead performance in a musical – Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood

and the many others who appeared in Annie, Joseph, Shrek, Singin’ in the Rain, Sneeuwitjie, and Six Characters in Search of an Author.

We wish all our fellow nominees well and hope that we can all continue as a supportive theatrical community and keep on bringing inspiring motivational and entertaining productions to all of South Africa’s rainbow nation.
