IFAS Research, the research arm of the French Institute of South Africa are currently collaborating with WITS University to bring a series of events, discussions and walk abouts titled Experimenting/Experiencing the City.

The Ambassador of France to South Africa, H.E. Mr Christophe Farnaud took the opportunity of this series of events, to host a reception in honour of Professor Alan Mabin, who is an Emeritus Professor of WITS University. For over 30 years, Professor Mabin has been key in the fields of urbanism and town planning and co-founder of Planact, an NGO working with township communities since  1985.

Ambassador Farnaud said of Mabin, “You have been a partner and friend of IFAS-Recherche since the very first days of the French Institute”, as he awarded him Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite. This National Order of Merit is a French Order awarded for distinguished civil or military achievements.
