The Rand Symphony Orchestra presents their heart-warming Sublime Summer concert at the Roodepoort Theatre at 15h00 on 25 March 2018.
This community orchestra has been a vibrant contributor to amateur classical music in Gauteng for over 30 years.
A group of friends, believing that it is essential to grow and sustain classical music in our society, established an amateur orchestra which rehearsed in a member’s garage under the founding name, Rand Chamber Orchestra in the late 1970’s, under the well-known South African conductor Weiss Doubell.
Those early days laid the foundation for the Rand Symphony Orchestra of today. The Orchestra offers musicians the opportunity to play ensemble work and perform regularly in public concerts.
Over many years, The Rand Symphony Orchestra has accompanied some highly regarded soloists in the music genre. The likes of Miro Tchakaryan, currently Concert Master of the JPO, Malcolm Nay, Professor at the University of the Witwatersrand, and acclaimed violinist and teacher, Zanta Hofmeyr, have collaborated with The Rand Symphony Orchestra.
Each day, these outstanding artists who wow audiences ‘for the love of music’ contribute to society as doctors, psychologists, teachers, lawyers and general office workers.
The Sublime Summer Concert is on Sunday, 25 March, at 15h00, at the Roodepoort Theatre, Christiaan De Wet Road, in Florida, with Conductor Carel Henn and Solo Pianist Tinus Botha.
Tickets are R180 – Adults; R150 – Pensioners & Students; R120 – Scholars; R120 per person for groups of 10 or more.
