Gita Pather on So Solo 2016
11 talented performers will take to the stage with solo performances at this year’s So Solo Festival, creating a programme characterised by a great diversity of form and expression. The festival comprises solo performances ranging from comedy to drama. So Solo’s officially commissioned play for 2016, Gqisha! The Chant that Calls opens the festival. This socio-political play by Khayelihle “Dom” Gumede and Raezeen Wentworth reflects on the war dance of so many South Africans who are striving for a better future. Nhlanhla Mahlangu will perform this piece 10 times during the festival. Renos Spanoudes interviewed Gita Pather, Director of Wits Theatre about the So Solo Festival.
The So Solo Festival runs from 23 November – 4 December 2016 at the Wits Theatre Complex. Click here for more about the festival.
