Friends of Joburg Art Gallery BASA Award Nomination.
The Friends of Johannesburg Art Gallery, Marianne Fassler and breinstorm BA have been nominated for a Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) Award in the Increasing Access to the Arts. They have received this nomination for their support of The Evidence of Things Not Seen exhibition and Visible Tones online and social media public participation project.
In 2014 ago Marianne Fassler, in collaboration with Breinstorm Brand Architects (BBA), initiated a revival drive for the Friends of JAG, and restore and expand the organisation’s important role in supporting JAG.
The Evidence of Things Not Seen, a reference in part to James Baldwin’s book of the same title, speaks to the intangible but pervasive nature of identity. Using works from the JAG collection exclusively by artists of colour, the exhibition explored various forms of identity and explores issues of feminism, queerness, revolution and culture in Black identity.
