After 4 days of live showcases that saw over 70 bands battle it out for various international festivals performance slots, the event is now closing with a bang. The line-up comprises of acts that have previously performed overseas following their getting selected via the same SA Indies Music Week event. Winning artists will also be announced on the same day.
The evening will mark the end of what has been a successful event thus far, with days comprising of workshops daily during the day, and live showcases in the evenings. Thus far, amazing talent have been spotted and the selection jury has been impressed. It comprises of various local and international industry experts, including representatives of the various festivals like Almudena Heredero from Primavera Sound in Spain and Delphine Grospiron who is the head of the Live Department for Midem since September 2010. Also from the international front were Allen Johnston from the US, and Karen Mason of Artist Launch from the US as well.
Music lovers will certainly do well to attend the final night as they will be treated to some of Mzansi’s well known and award winning artists.
Heading the bill will be the multiple SAMA Awards and Metro Awards winning Siphokazi. This songstress, with 2 SAMAs and three Metro Awards will be sharing her amazing talent with the audience. She also rocked the Midem stage in France in 2016, where she left the audience asking for more. This year she will be heading to the US in March where she will be at the SXSW at Austin, Texas.
Joining her will be Mzansi’s loved couple duo of Bongi & Collin. The SAMA Awards and multiple Crown Awards winning husband and wife will be doing what they are best known for: great music. They also were at Midem in 2015 and in 2016 were at SXSW where they even collaborated with Sol Paul to record a song for Unicef.
Not to be forgotten is the versatile and multi-talented AfroSoul and World Music artist, Maxhoba. He is also a SAMA and WAWELA Awards nominee. This seasoned performer has shared the stage with the likes of Don Laka, Ringo Madlingozi, The Wailers, Paul Hanmer, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Caiphus Semenya and Letta Mbulu, Simphiwe Dana, Jonas Gwangwa and many others. Also, his music recently play listed on 250 College and Indie Radio Stations across the USA. Counted amongst his hats also is that he’s the Oxfam Ambassador for Women Food Climate. In 2016 he completed a 3-week European Tour where he performed at Primavera Pro in Spain and at Midem in France.
The rest of the line-up includes seasoned and well-travelled artists like: Jessica Mbangeni, Victor Kgantlape, Moonchild Sanelly, Fortune Shumba, Princess, Jay Cube, 4RX and DJV to add some deejay flavour to the night.
Tickets costs just R100 and are available at Computicket and Shoprite/Checkers outlets countrywide. They can also be purchased at the door. A bulk of 10 tickets are sold at R70 each.
