If music be the food of love, play on … so the CPO is playing on at the local home of Shakespeare at the Maynardville Open-Air Festival in Wynberg.
Symphonic Shakespeare takes place on January 18, 19, and 20 at 20:15 and will feature some of the most popular music set to the bard’s popular plays.
With Brandon Phillips on the podium and narration by Rodney Trudgeon, you can listen to some of the most beloved orchestral works that underscore the immortal Shakespearean words. From Nicolai’s Merry Wives of Windsor to Romeo and Juliet by Tchaikovsky, Berlioz and Prokofiev, you can also mellow in the magic of Mendelssohn and more.
The CPO is followed by a season of ballet – Les Sylphides and The Firebird – with Cape Town City Ballet, a comedy season run by the Cape Town Comedy Club as well as the annual Shakespeare play mounted by The Pink Couch and Explosiv Productions, finishing the season with The Taming of the Shrew.
Tickets for the CPO concerts are from R150 to R220 and early bird discounts before December 30 apply. Booking Computicket http://bit.ly/ShakespeareMaynardville and Artscape Dial-A-Seat 021 421 7695.
