The search for faith is about to be captured in Mzansi Magic’s latest religious drama, iThemba, and Thandy Matlaila will prove to SA her diversity.

Since her television debut on SABC 1’s Tshisa, she has worked on numerous productions such as Intersexions, Ring of Lies and The Queen – and now she’s stepping into the role of “Lahliwe” in iThemba.

Lahliwe is a young woman in her early twenties who defies her family to join a church; searching for her purpose and meaning in life. When the church tasks her with stealing from her family, she does so with the hope that she’ll get favour from the church leaders, but things go from bad to worse and her journey towards getting acceptance leads her into some hot waters.

In speaking about the role, Thandy says: “Lahliwe is so close to my heart because I have seen so many people sell their souls for some form of acceptance or another; be it in the family home, with peers, at work and even in a space/place of worship. Everyone is going to relate to her in some way.”

When Thandy is not on screen, she’s a fitness fanatic who can either be seen on the dance floor, on the road running or improving her yoga moves.

Her entrepreneurship endeavours have also led her towards establishing a PR company, Aptitude Consulting, which has done work for various events in the South African entertainment industry.

Thandy has a keen interest in giving back and her philanthropic work ranges from giving back to charity, environmental awareness and giving matriculants the opportunity to shine at their matric dances through her “27 Dresses” initiative.

With so much work under her belt, it is clear to see that she is an all-rounded performer with goals and accomplishments that will see her star shining even brighter.

iThemba is set to air on Monday, 7 October at 8pm on Mzansi Magic (DSTV Channel 161).
