Peter Feldman writes: In celebration of their 30 years, T Musicman, organisers of the annual Standard Bank Joy of Jazz, has lined up events this summer geared to sizzle.It will kick off with the Nubian Music Festival on 16 December, the Day of Reconciliation, at the picturesque Eagle Waters Wildlife Resort in Hartbeespoort Dam in North West. This project is being staged in partnership with Eagle Waters Wildlife Resorts.

The inaugural Nubian Music festival will showcase a stellar line-up of top class acts and will feature musical legends Caiphus Semenya and Tsepo Tshola, who will headline the bill with their distinctive musical shadings.

They will be joined by the energetic crowd pleaser Selaelo Selota, the timeless romantic Ringo and Lesotho’s finest Afro jazz export Bhudaza. The sultry Afro-soul songbird Wanda Baloyi; the sassy and elegant Brenda Mtambo and Nigerian Afrobeat star Femi Koya will bring their flavour and flair to the programme.

The youthful vibes and energy of Nombulelo Maqetuka, Tumi Tladi and friends complete the line-up and it should prove a blast.

The event will also showcase Dipotata, one of the best known North West performers, as well as Katlego “Cheche” who hails from Lebogo in the Madibeng District. Her appearance is bound to warm the hearts of her hometown audience.

The beautiful natural surroundings of the resort, which include zebra and blesbok which roam free, and various bird species, forms a stunning backdrop for a family friendly picnic-style gathering.

Younger members of the family will have play-zones to keep them entertained, while the older crowd are serenaded by the musical notes wafting through the air.

Said Peter Tladi, T Musicman CEO: “What makes this a truly special festival is that we are performing at the feet of mother nature. The scenic Hartbeespoort Dam and the Magaliesburg mountains add to the ambiance of what promises to be a wonderful musical outing for the whole family. This promises to be a truly fun and memorable day.”

Tickets go for R300 at Computicket and R1750 for VIP access. Entry is free for children under the age of 12. Cooler boxes and picnic baskets allowed at R50 per person. No bottles will be allowed.
